I want to start my own dental management business where do I start first?

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
Kathryn L asked:

I know how to manage and consult but I have never started a business for myself. I’m not sure where to start aside from buying a book. The practice I work for has grown so tremendously, largely through my efforts, I would like to have a contract in place that will secure some longivity and work for my retirement not solelyf or someone elses. I don’t want to take my show on the road I just want to maximize the potential where I’m at. The practice I work for continues to want to purchase smaller practices with me taking all the responsibility of acquisitioning them. So I think if I have the managment contract I can be better compensated when times are good and willing to take the hit if things aren’t so good. What do you think?

when starting a small business partnership. How much value should be given to experience in the industry?

Rich asked:

Looking at starting a small landscape supply yard. I have my funding ready in the bank. He is still working on his cash but should have it soon. He has been in the industry as a Yard manager for 5 years. I have 10 years in construction equipment management. He has already found a property, found suppliers and has contacts with existing contractors in the area. His ideas shows us as 50/50 in cash investments but 60/40 in profit sharing. he feels his idea, his leg work so far should give him to a bigger % of the potential profits. I agree it has some value but not a year after year bigger slice of the pie. Any of you have any suggestions for me.

Most valuable undergrad degree: Management, Marketing, or Finance?

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009
Projos asked:

I’m an undergrad business student trying to select the most marketable/desirable major for employers. Which would you recommend I focus on: Management, Marketing, or Finance?

If it helps:
- I plan to earn my MBA (General Management) 8-10 years from now
- I’d like to work overseas (Europe) after graduation
- I currently own a small business, and intend to invest in more in the future
- I have experience in all these areas, and find the options equally appealing

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!
If you would briefly explain your answer, I would greatly appreciate it!

Can a CANADIAN wanting to start LLC’d business in Michigan oversee without any additional visas?

Thursday, January 8th, 2009
thelaw1414 asked:

I am interested in starting a business in Michigan, and have already started the paperwork for an LLC. My concern is that if I return on a daily basis (especially at the setup stage of the business), Customs will eventually pull me over and deny me entry. Does overseeing the establishment of a small business, and ongoing management of said business require any particular visas or other paperwork, or am I fine as long as I do not receive any renumeration for this (I will be filing the LLC as a single member, and therefore the profits will pass through to me eventually, but does this really matter at this point?). I will be hiring US staff to man the operation, and setup will also be done by Americans. Any perspective on this would be greatly appreciated…

I’ve been told there are agencies prepared to help small business. Any suggestions?

Lisa T asked:

I co-own 2 businesses - one with several partners that is well-established; and, a fairly new business with one other woman (I’m a female - also an attorney). The economy, poor management (I’m been silent until recently) and employee theft have more than taken their toll; however, both businesses have the ability to be very successful. We have a great deal of the problems in hand now; but, resources are slim and we prefer to not hit the round of local banks again where our payments this past year have been slow. What agencies, govenment and otherwise are there that are prepared to help?

my union is corrupt but i must belong or else i get scre*wed by them. they basically work for management?

Sunday, January 4th, 2009
darkling asked:

they skim money off the workers and never tell us any information. management would usually rather deal with union than their own staff. its kinda like the mob getting protection money off small businesses except the union takes our money and gives us pretty much nothing for it. they make good money off the workers. they are the biggest union in the country too so its not like there are others really to join. what is your experience of unions? are they also corrupt?

Business owners–Why do you direct your management to treat you’re employees like second class citizens?

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009
nooner asked:

I want to give a warning out to every small to medium corporation that treats its employess like dogs. If you are being treated like a dog by your employer it is not your manager’s fault. It is the owner’s fault. You may not know this person. This person may never show his/or her face. However, it is this person who is responsible for treating you like crap as he/her is the person(s) who developed the corporate culture of your company. It is not in the interest of business or profit as to why you are being treated like crap. It is for the pure evilness of the owner of your corportation. It is a Vendeta that he or she had as an empolyee themself. Owners who treat their employees like SECOND CLASS CITIZENS are perpetrating the most hainess crime onto humanity. You may get away with it in this life; but rest assured in the after life; you are going to hell.
