I know a lot of people who double majoedr in engineering and business. In fact, nearly all of the undergraduate finance majors I taught at MIT were doing a double major. They do work well together.
That is the good news. The bad news is that there is very little overlap between the two fields. What little overlap there exists is in the more complicated asset pricing classes in finance — which don’t really help you to run a business.
As for your plan — you would probably have more success starting your own firm than by getting rich working for someone else and then buying a firm.
