What is the right major for business?

Remy asked:

I want to major in business….I just don’t know what kind though like entrepreneur, business management or what? What would be the right major if I want to open up my own small bar/restuarant?? And this is just an additional…..but if you answer the question….would you happen to know what are good schools for that major??

Some schools specialize in entrepreneurialism, where you make business plans, etc. I know Babson in Massachusetts, where my sis went has a focus on that and has some disgtinguished alums that come in and talk about the business they started and grew. I was a marketing major. I think that is a good general major for business. If you want the best or highest ranked schools go to Wharton, in Pennsylvania, D. Trump’s and his daughter’s alma mater or Harvard B School, but that is a status thing for people that want to work in the shi-shi world of consulting or investment banking. I think for your goal you could go anywhere, and what you get out of the degree is what you put into it.

No college major can adequately prepare you for the real world. It’s best to study your heart’s desire and learn business in the real world.
